The Smurfs 3D 2011 follows tiny blue creatures who flee from the evil wizard Gargamel and his cat Azrael. They travel through a magical portal from their village to New York City landing in Central Park. The Smurfs including Papa Smurf Clumsy Smurf Smurfette and others must find a way back home while avoiding Gargamel who follows them to the human world. They befriend a married couple Patrick and Grace Winslow who help them hide. Gargamel gains magical powers from the portal and plans to capture the Smurfs to extract their essence for a spell. The Smurfs work together to return Gargamel to their world and seal the portal before he can destroy their village.
