Miss Sadie Thompson 3D 1953 follows Sadie a woman who was kicked out of a Honolulu brothel for her profession. She boards a ship for New Caledonia to avoid deportation to San Francisco where she is wanted for another crime. The ship is quarantined on an island occupied almost entirely by Marines. Alfred Davidson a fanatical reformer pursues her determined to save her soul. Sergeant OHara a Marine falls in love with Sadie. Davidson corners Anna / Sadie psychologically and she eventually submits to his spiritual bullying only to kill herself when he leaves. OHara finds her body. This adaptation of Somerset Maughams story Rain was filmed on location in Hawaii with Rita Hayworth in the title role and José Ferrer as the obsessed Davidson whose motivation differs from the original missionary character.
