In the film Mortal Engines 3D 2018, centuries after a cataclysmic war, massive predatory cities traverse a scarred Earth on wheels, consuming smaller towns for resources. Tom Natsworthy, an apprentice historian on London, encounters the scarred assassin Hester Shaw, who tries to kill London's head historian, Thaddeus Valentine. Thrown together off the moving city, they must survive the dangerous Outlands. They uncover Valentine's plot to unleash an ancient superweapon, forcing them to ally with rebels and an outlaw airship captain to stop London from destroying the last free settlement and plunging the world into eternal tyranny.
